The story of CTO Residence

Starting point - how to create the dream job for CTOs, starting with ourselves?

At CTO Residence, we started as a small team of software enthusiasts who wanted to help businesses overcome their technology challenges - and provide amazing opportunities for CTOs. CTO in Residence (fractional/interim) is a perfect role for gaining experiences from multiple business domains and various stages of companies. Employment doesn’t enable such variety of problems to work on and all consultancy companies care of is building the valuation for the company . Everything started with the Founding CTOs asking themselves “how do we create the dream job for ourselves?” As there was no suitable existing model in the market, CTO Residence was founded.

Recognizing the growing trend of consultancy over in-house development (2024 is the first year where more software development happens via consultancy than in-house), we provide a risk-mitigated pathway for CTOs to engage with diverse business environments. Our foundation is built on shared experiences, addressing common challenges such as opportunity discovery, financial security, administrative tasks of running a company, and having the support of other CTOs. However, the gap of hopping from a comfortable, risk free employment to a project based CTO life working alone is too much for many. The key challenge was that all of us had to solve the same problems on our own - find the opportunities, deal with the financial risks of downtime, handle administrative tasks and we had no official network to cover our backs.
